August is National Digestive Disorder Awareness Month. Why mention digestive issues in a blog post? The digestion system, also known as the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, is one of the biggest systems in our bodies and it influences the body’s overall health. Do you remember hearing the saying ‘a health body starts in the gut’?

The digestion system starts at your month and ends with the anus. The hollow organs of GI tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus and the solid organs are the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. Some of the most common digestive disorders are Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), gallstones, Celiac disease, Crohn’s diseases, Ulcerative Colitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, hemorrhoids, Diverticulitis, and Anal Fissure. If you look at the status of any one of these diseases thousands of Americans have them.

Many of these disorders do not have a cure and some of them have uncomfortable symptoms such as cramping, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and/or having allergic reactions to foods that can be life threatening. Most people change their eating habits to eliminate or reduce symptoms. More people are also searching for alternative or complimentary medicine to avoid being on medication for the rest of their lives. Reiki and Sound Therapy can help people reduce or alleviate many of the symptoms of digestive diseases.

The foundation of both Reiki and Sound Therapy is the body is composed of energy and that the flow of energy is vital to good health. When a disease occurs in the body, a blockage of energy occurs; in other words, the energy cannot properly flow which causes more stress to the body and prevents it from healing. It is similar to the idea of a hose having a kink in it causing the water not to flow properly. In both Reiki and Sound Therapy, the energy works on breaking up the blockage whether by touch or vibration. When the blockage decreases and the flow through the body is restored, health is improved. Some of my clients with digestive disorders report their symptoms from the disease decrease or disappear and their overall health improves.
