Why is Self-Care Important to Me

I am often asked if I have a self-care routine for myself since I work in the self-care industry and I promote it to my clients. My answer is yes, I do have a self-care plan and I tweak it every few months. Why? My life is constantly changing; I am adding new and removing old ideas, plans, techniques and/or items.
One of my biggest life adjustments I made in 2019 was selling our home and all the details related to moving a home. It totally threw me off my self-care routine; I found myself not practicing my affirmations, serenity moments, or getting my walks in during those months. Yes, I got a lot of exercise with packing, cleaning and moving boxes & furniture, but it was not enriching my inner peace and soul. I lived in chaos for almost 3 months and I really needed to get back on track. I worked with my friend and health & wellness coach Amy MaHarry of Miraculous You to reestablish my self-care activities. It literally meant establishing a self-care goal every 2 weeks and following it through. The first one was my serenity moments, which are my Zen time every afternoon. I focus at least 10 minutes on being present and not worrying about life. I personally cherish these moments every day; it often gives my day new purpose. It took me about 2 months to reestablish my self-care routine.
Another part of this life lesson regarding self-care was the importance of receiving help from other self-care professionals. I needed the assistance of a coach, an acupuncturist, massage therapist, a Reiki Master and another Vibrational Sound Practitioner during this time. I realized I need and enjoy having other self-care professionals be a part of my self-care plan. Other people who helped were a yoga instructor and physical trainer who gave me guidance on stretching exercises. Every one of these professionals helped me get back on track for my self-care. It was an important life lesson to learn that self-care cannot disappear when your life is undergoing major change. Instead, it is vital keeping to your self-care routine to keep stress level manageable.
