2020: A Rollercoaster Year

Do you feel like you have been on a rollercoaster this year? Many people are feeling like they have. I just got done attending my first national online conference this year and many of them concurred it has been a rollercoaster year.  It felt different seeing my sound practitioner friends on Zoom versus greeting them in person.  Everyone said they missed hugging each other. I also missed those early mornings and/or late-night conversations with new members and old friends.  However, despite the obstacles of COVID 19, we did get together virtually.

Many of the attendees shared stories of how their lives have changed in the past 6 months.  Almost everyone is a small business entrepreneur or owner and this epidemic has affected all of us. Many were mandated to physically close their business for 1 to 5 months, which led to many of us doing virtual work.  Some of us started sound baths on Facebook and others met clients on Zoom for sessions.  I heard a lot of people mentioning adaptability and redesigning of businesses throughout the weekend. Underneath the discussions about business, was conversations about our mental and emotional health.  One of the presenters gave a seminar on the importance of self-care for our wellbeing.  As alternative and complimentary practitioners, our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health does affect our work and how we interact with our clients. The overall message I heard this weekend was even though this year has been a rollercoaster ride, we have hope for the rest of the year being better.
